Official partner of the Dutch men’s water polo team through Los Angeles 2028
Amersfoort, 25 June 2026 — Six Dutch swimming pool companies have joined forces under the name Pool of Support to support the Dutch men’s water polo programme, initially through the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The partners and the KNZB announced the partnership around the Netherlands – Germany friendly international on 17 June 2026. They have also expressed their intention to extend the partnership through the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.
The Pool of Support consists of six companies specialising in the construction and development of swimming pools: Variopool, Hellebrekers, EVA Optic, VDH Water Technology, Slangen+Koenis Architecten and Treem Groep. Together, they share the ambition to strengthen swimming and aquatic sports in the Netherlands.
The partnership comes at a time when funding for the men’s team is under pressure. As the team did not finish among the top eight at the recent European and World Championships, part of the NOC*NSF funding was withdrawn. However, the Pool of Support sees great potential in the current generation of players and wants to invest in their development.
“We believe this talented group has what it takes to compete for a medal at the Olympic Games in Brisbane. Our sponsorship will initially run through the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, but we intend to extend it through Brisbane 2032. The Pool of Support will organise events around matches and training sessions for its members and business relations. Together with the players and staff, we will join them on their journey towards Olympic qualification over the coming years,” says Mark Bennenbroek, Managing Director of Treem Groep B.V.
In addition to financial support, the partners offer players and talented athletes opportunities to develop a dual career within their companies. In this way, they contribute to the athletes’ development both in and out of the water.
“The support of the Pool of Support is incredibly important for our men’s water polo team. It not only enables the team to continue developing on a sporting level, but also gives the players prospects for a successful career after their sporting careers,” says Marieke Hogeterp, Manager Marketing, Communications and Commerce at the KNZB. “This partnership demonstrates the broad support for Dutch swimming and aquatic sports and the confidence in the future of our water polo team.”
