A counter-current swimming machine creates a current in the water that you swim against, so you stay in one place. That lets you swim continuously and freely even in a smaller pool.
EVA Optic holds an international patent on a counter-current turbine with a narrowed outflow. The same volume of water therefore enters the pool at a higher speed. A difference you feel from the first stroke: more resistance, more lift and a more spacious swimming zone.
The turbine is the result of three years of in-house engineering and development. The technology that makes this efficiency possible is internationally patented and found only in the EVAstream.
THE PRINCIPLE
Water displacement (m³/h) says how much water flows, not how powerful that feels. Only together with the current speed (m/s) does the swimming experience emerge, and that is where EVA’s patented counter-current technology makes the difference. The narrowing in the EVAstream turbine does not increase the water displacement but the speed at which the water leaves the turbine. The volume stays the same, the current becomes more powerful.
There is an EVAstream for every swimmer, up to competition level. The principle is familiar from a garden hose: squeeze the end and the same water comes out with more force. The same volume through a smaller opening means a higher speed. That fact is the basis of the EVAstream patent.
COMPARED WITH A REGULAR INSTALLATION
With a regular counter-current installation the water displacement tells you everything about the power, because there is no narrowing to accelerate the water. Anyone comparing the EVAstream with it needs a smaller model: our EVAstream 225 delivers the same current speed as a regular turbine of 350 m³/h. Equally powerful in the water, but more compact and more economical.
THE MISCONCEPTION
Narrowing calls up the image of a thin, hard jet, as with a garden hose. That is not how it works here. The EVAstream narrows the outlet slightly and retains 80% of the original diameter, so the current stays wide and comfortable. Only the current speed increases.
FOR THE SWIMMER
The narrowing accelerates the current and makes it reach further into the pool. That produces a natural swimming position, a considerably larger swimming zone, and more power from less water displacement.
You are automatically brought into a stable, natural swimming position. The flow is aimed at your upper body instead of your head, with enough room to breathe and without water splashing up.
Because the current reaches further into the water, a more spacious swimming zone is created and there is more room to accelerate and decelerate without touching the wall. The double turbine design gives an even more spacious swimming zone.
The current does not fan out immediately after the outflow but stays concentrated enough to surround your body completely. That way you make optimal use of the current in the water.
THE SOUND
A swimming machine displaces a lot of water and therefore usually makes audible noise. With the EVAstream that does not happen, because we balance the motors precisely in our own production facility, so that virtually no vibration occurs. What you hear is the water, not the machine.
FIELD MEASUREMENT BY A SWISS ACOUSTICS AGENCY
In a private indoor pool the built-in swimming machine was audible in the adjoining living spaces. A Swiss acoustics agency compared the existing installation with an EVAstream at an equal water displacement of 215 m³ per hour in the same pool, measured in the living space next to the pool room. The EVAstream proved more than four times quieter, and without the intrusive hum of the existing installation.
Decibels do not rise in a straight line: every 10 dB less sounds about half as loud. The difference between 29 and 52 dB is therefore no small step: the EVAstream sounds more than four times quieter.
